When you fixate on the finish line
Sometimes.... Well.. All the time, when I have a task that needs to be completed, I fixate on the goal to finish it.
That means that all other things disappear from my view because my mind is fixed on getting the main task completed.
It's definitely something that I need to work especially when I am trying to be more productive. So fixating on one thing at time isn't exactly the best practice to get more done.
With that being said, I have been fixated on completing the final 50% of my online course model. It has been great developing this course, and I've learned so much that could definitely be applied to my work place.
The one thing that I feel has been a huge impact in my learning has been working with Screencastify and Google Slides together. If you ever used Google Slides, there's this caption icon in the presentation mode. I've always wanted to know how it worked. Through building my online class, I saw the validity of it. I record my slides and turned the caption on, my viewer will get my voice over the lesson but also in written form. So this feature allows to me to reach all readers with different learning abilities. The only downfall is that you need to enunciate and speak slowly or the caption will make up your words!
The one point that I thought this would work out is you could use Screencastify to record Google Slides and your lectures. It will even capture student's questions and your responses. This would work great for students who are absent to get the full lecture instead of hard copy of notes but also hear what questions that students may have as well. I definitely want to implement this with my innovation plan.
I think teachers of Teen Leadership and ESL could definitely utilize online course to help their students gain better understanding of their content.
Teen Leadership- an elective that teaches students character building as well as leadership skills in class. This course could have an online presence that allows students to take on challenges that help them develop their character and also discuss how these challenges have influenced their lives.
ESL- an English is a Second Language course. This course allows students to acquire the English language. By allowing a place for students to access learning wherever they are at can allow them to acquire the language quicker.
