Professional Learning
Step 1:Call to Action
Step 2: Why, How, and What
Why?
I view professional learning as an opportunity to grow for the better. Growing is selfless and allows you to be better for others. As an educator, we grow so we can become better for our students. I started my presentation with an image of a tool box because what we learn in PL are tools that we use in teaching students our subject matter. The pictures of individuals with a bored expression and a overwhelming feature are faces that the audience can relate to when they hear the words "Professional Learning". My explanations of emotions, phrases and thoughts are all of what I have heard in my environment. They're also thoughts and emotions that I sometimes feel as well, I wanted to audience to see that I am part of those groups as well. When I move to the collaboration picture. I see collaboration as teamwork, your team helps you grow and learn. Effective PL is when individuals are providing opportunity to have a voice in what they are learning as well as time to truly produce a plan to implement those strategies. The common denominator I read in most of the articles in accountability. Providing a team allows each member to accountable in implementing their strategies. Reviewing over how I was going to implement my innovation plan, I needed to develop a PL that will provide teachers with tech teams. I wanted to also incorporate my PL plan for my innovation plan. Also ending my presentation with a Carol Dweck quote, I wanted to implement the ideas of a growth mindset. Teachers should be the leaders of a positive growth mindset.
What?
How?
Through my presentation above, Professional learning is about developing meaning to what educators learn. Through the develop meaningful learning, professional are able to grow. Most of the images I used are through Adobe Spark with a graph that I found on a teacher's blog (The Pensive Sloth) that truly depict the thoughts of teachers in professional learning environment. Along with incorporating my innovation plan, I added a quick step by step image I had created for my innovation plan to reference back to my PL idea for the teachers in my organization. I wanted to use Adobe Spark because it was had a presentation feature that I've never used before. Incorporating the Adobe Spark program allowed for me to create a visual presentation that allowed to voice over my presentation notes with each slide.
Teachers will develop learning teams that will allow them to collaborate together on strategies. In my presentation to change the way PL is used. I wanted to address the thoughts and emotions that I see day to day when PL is mentioned as well as the problems that teachers often address when they go to PL. I think changing PL into a teacher centered session, can provide teachers with a COVA opportunity to develop their own learning and growth with strategies that are useful to them. Putting teachers in learning teams will also provide accountability as well as more real life examples in the classrooms. This will allow them time to implement and see various methods on how to utilize those strategies. Along with providing opportunities to view, teams will provide feedback and focus on one particular strategy before moving on to the next strategy.
